La creatina chinasi MB (CK-MB) è localizzata principalmente a livello delle cellule cardiache. È una delle tre forme (isoenzimi) dell’enzima creatina chinasi (CK). Gli isoenzimi includono:
- CK-MM; localizzato principalmente nel muscolo scheletrico e nel cuore
- CK-MB; localizzato principalmente nel cuore e, in minor quantità, nelle cellule del muscolo scheletrico
- CK-BB; localizzato principalmente nel cervello e nella muscolatura liscia: intestino e utero
Il CK è rilasciato dalle cellule dei muscoli ed è rilevabile nel sangue in seguito a un danno muscolare. Una piccola concentrazione di CK che si trova normalmente nel sangue è principalmente costituita da CK-MM. Il CK-BB non è quasi mai rilevabile nel sangue, mentre il CK-MB è presente in concentrazioni significative in seguito a danno cardiaco. Il test del CK misura la concentrazione totale, ma non distingue tra i tre tipi di isoenzimi.
Creatine kinase MB (CK-MB) is mainly located in cardiac cells. It is one of the three forms (isoenzymes) of the enzyme creatine kinase (CK). A small concentration of CK normally found in the blood is primarily made up of CK-MM. CK-BB is almost never detectable in the blood, while CK-MB is present in significant concentrations following cardiac damage. The CK test measures the total concentration, but does not distinguish between the three types of isoenzymes.
