Gli anticorpi anti-muscolo liscio (ASMA) sono autoanticorpi, proteine prodotte dal sistema immunitario in grado di riconoscere ed attaccare una proteina chiamata actina presente nella muscolatura liscia e in altri tessuti dell’organismo di appartenenza, specialmente nel fegato. L’ esame rileva la presenza di questi anticorpi nel sangue. La produzione di ASMA è fortemente associata alla presenza di epatite autoimmune; più raramente si osserva anche in altre patologie del fegato, come la colangite biliare primitiva.
Anti-smooth muscle antibodies (ASMA) are autoantibodies, proteins produced by the immune system capable of recognizing and attacking a protein called actin present in smooth muscles and other tissues of the body to which they belong, especially in the liver. L’ test detects the presence of these antibodies in the blood. The production of ASTHMA is strongly associated with the presence of autoimmune hepatitis; more rarely it is also observed in other liver pathologies, such as primary biliary cholangitis.
